Theatre outing : A Christmas Carol

On Thursday 13th November, the British international section pupils and the 5°5 went to Salle Paul Garcin to see an amazing production of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol that had been adapted for the stage. Here are some of the pupils’ reactions:

The actors were great and made the characters feel real.

I liked how the actor who played Charles Dickens told us to say Merry Christmas to the people next to us. I think that was a good interaction with the audience.

The play was based on A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, but the company managed to make the story feel fresh and fun. It was surprisingly funny, with jokes and songs that added good rhythm to the story.

Each actor brought their role to life with energy and emotion, making the story feel real and engaging. The costumes were beautiful and helped transport the audience into Dickens’ world, while the singing created a lively and cheerful atmosphere.

The theatre group’s adaptation was accurate and entertaining, but in comparison to the novella I thought that the spirits were able to convince Scrooge of his wrongdoing too easily. After living for so many years with the same mindset it should have been harder to lure him away from that.

The costumes helped me understand the characters better.

There were only six actors to play all the roles and they switched costumes very quickly. The scenery was always the same, yet it was well adapted for all the scenes.

The actors performed superbly and spoke loudly. It was easy to understand who was which character.

The play was engaging and fun. I was impressed by how the actors switched their roles seamlessly. The use of the same set brought more focus to the actors.

I liked the songs, especially the one where Scrooge ‘dies.’ I think the songs gave the play rhythm. They also reminded us of the ‘carol’ in the title.

Overall, I think this play really reminds us of the importance of giving and sharing at Christmas. It tells us that even if you are bad, you can become a good person, and I think the actors really made us believe that.

I think it was a good idea to have an actor play Charles Dickens. He provided infomation about the context in which the novella was written and helped us to understand the play in more detail.

I liked the play because of the energy the actors had. I came to understand the real meaning of the story when I saw the play.
